abroad

Went to Carlisle on the train today.only an hour south of Glasgow.Wandered around lovely day, warm sun, friendly locals.did'nt hear a Scottish accent. Had a coffee sitting outside a cafe.Felt i was abroad. Then i thought when Scotland is independent how easy it will be to travel abroad.

media support for independence

is it just me. as yet i have not seen any main stream media supporting the concept of independence.there has been much discussion about what went wrong with the unionist parties in the election and what westminster need to to do to thwart the s.n.p. in gaining independence for scotland.prior to the outstanding s.n.p. victory last week support for independence i understand was about 25-35 %.give or take.this figure could now be higher.the media i understand is to reflect public opinion.it took almost four years of a minority s.n.p.government before some section of the media came out in support of them (only days before voting) in the election last week.are things changing?

tuition fees

we are told that too many people now go to university.so it appears the answer south of the border is to raise tuition fees.we are also told that graduates will not have to pay until they are earning £21,000 or more.yes seems straight forward enough.but universities are short of cash now so if i had the money and wanted my child to attend a top university i could offer the money up front,no?as for too many now going into higher education how do we chose who should not go.well if i had just spent x amount a term sending my child to a private school and be told no room at university.......do i see something here. surely not.

Sunday 19 September 2010

there is a great deal to be said for cheap air travel.visiting our fellow European cousins is now much easier.we find out they are much the same as us in many respects.not many decades ago we used to fight wars with some of our neighbours across the water.now we invade them with our wallets and holiday gear.the E.U. has also played a part in bringing us closer.it has its faults yes,but better for our young men to go to the beaches of Europe for beer and a sun tan than to fight wars.

Sunday 5 September 2010

there must be an election in the air.our main stream media is reporting with glee the faults of our current s.n.p government and highlighting their hopeless plans and cuts for the future.polls are predicting a disaster for the s.n.p. at the election.
what rarely is reported is that scotland is having its pocket money cut.the s.n.p. are a minority government and most of what they have managed to get through parliament has been with the agreement of some of the opposition parties.opposition parties are critical and obstructive at times but seem to offer little in the way constructive alternatives.which i would have thought our media would be pointing out.
political parties fortunes fluctuate as the polls seem to show.the s.n.p. is made of people from various parts of the political spectrum with the aim of an independent scotland.
is the people of scotland entitled to a vote on this?

media support

in Scotland the figures in favour of independence vary it seems from about 25% to between 40% plus, give or take, depending on various situations and sections of population polled.taking the lowest percentage (25%) you would have thought that sections of mainstream media would have show some support for independence.not necessarily supporting the s.n.p. but perhaps the concept of an independent Scotland.
